On Friday 16th we decided to take a day to visit a bit this unknown part of the Earth. Before taking the nave to go in Deception Island and Antarctica, we decided to spend a bit of our times to go on a trip in Tierra del Fuego (Chilean Part). So, we put our alarm clock on and attempt to live a sunny day in the Fire Earth! We had a strange guide, he wanted everything to be straight and clear he didn’t want to lose time at all. It was fine anyway, first we take the ferry from Punta Arenas to Porvenir, so we cross the Magallanes straight. We saw a whale (it was quite far from where we were), seals (in groups and playing) and many birds (aves).

Porvenir is an old city of Chilean Tierra del Fuego. It was first inhabited by autochthonous Indian (called Selk’nam) that are now vanished and were replaced by colonial family (mainly people from ex URSS). It’s a small city where they have schools, hospital and everything they need to live. They don’t like tourism apparently. They do everything in sort of not seeing their supermarket etc. It’s really strange because it seems that it is inhabited!
